Stroetinga vandt i Belgien – Mortensen i udbrud

Løbet var (som navnet antyder) årets sidste løb i Belgien og køres i byen Putte ved grænsen til Holland. Der blev kørt på en 16,7 kilometer lang rundstrækning uden de store højdemæssige udfordringer. I alt skulle der køres 11 omgange, hvilket gav en distance for løbet på 184 kilometer.

Selvom løbet var årets sidste blev der kørt rigtig stærkt fra start. Først på femte omgang - efter 79 kilometer - lykkedes det for otte ryttere at slippe rigtig fri af feltet. Det var Jeroen Lepla (Bofrost - Steria), Stijn Neirynck (Topsport Vlaanderen-Mercator), Baptiste Planckaert (Landbouwkrediet-Euphony), Andy Cappelle (Accent.jobs - Willems Verandas), Thomas De Gendt (Vacansoleil-DCM), Björn Leukemans (Vacansoleil-DCM), Ike Groen (Cyclingteam De Rijke - Shanks) og Giorgio Brambilla (Leopard - Trek CT).

I feltet arbejdede Argos-Shimano – med Marcel Kittel som sprinter – hårdt for at sikre en samlet afgørelse, og på ottende omgang blev udbruddet igen hentet ind.

Martin Mortensen af sted

Det gav anledning til et nyt angreb, og igen slap otte ryttere væk. Denne gang var danske Martin Mortensen (Vacansoleil-DCM) med. Baptiste Planckaert var eneste genganger fra det tidlige udbrud, mens de øvrige var Thomas Sprengers (Lotto-Belisol), Bert Van Lerberghe (Bofrost - Steria), Tom Goovaerts (Colba - Superano Ham), Loic Pestiaux (Idemasport - Biowanze), Jeroen Boelen (Cyclingteam De Rijke - Shanks) og Clément Lhotellerie (Colba - Superano Ham).

Denne gruppe nåede op på to minutters forspring til feltet, men endnu en gang blev det samlet. Der kom ikke flere udbrud væk fra feltet, og løbet skulle dermed afgøres i en massespurt. Her var Wim Stroetringa den hurtigste, og han vandt foran Michael Van Staeyen (Topsport Vlaanderen-Mercator) og Stefan van Dijk (Topsport Vlaanderen-Mercator).

Wim Stroetinga er af danskere nok mest kendt for sine baneevner. I år kom han på et afbud fra Peter Schep med til det københavnske 6-dagesløb, hvor han blev makker med Danny Stam, der kørte sit sidste 6-dagesløb. Parret sluttede på fjerdepladsen.
